The Italian Constitutional Court will rule on the validity of the new citizenship law on March 11, 2026
The Court has scheduled a decisive hearing, for the date of March 11, 2026, to assess the constitutionality of the recently enacted citizenship law, Law n. 74/2025 (which converted the Italian Decreee n. 36/2025 of March 28, 2025) focusing on Article 3‑bis of L. 91/1992 (introduced by the above law), which has been challenged for allegedly violating constitutional principles of equality and due process.
The ruling will determine whether Article 3‑bis remains in force or is, entirely or partly, struck down, with significant implications for citizenship rights, the balance between parliamentary discretion and constitutional guarantees and for thousands of applicants all over the world.
