Italy has finally adopted legislation providing for a possibility for foreign investors to acquire a visa by investing capitals in the country.
By amending the Legislative Decree 286/98 (inserting a new article, art. 26-bis), the 2017 Italian Budget Law indeed created a new type of visa, allowing investors and their family members to relocate to Italy at certain conditions.
Provided that certain legal requirements are fulfilled, investors deciding to either a) invest Euro 2.000.000,00 (2 million Euro), for at least 2 years, in Government bonds or b) invest Euro 1.000.000,00 (1 million Euro), for at least 2 years, in Italian company stock/shares -Euro 500.000,00 (five hundred thousand Euro) if the company is an innovative start-up or c) donate Euro 1.000.000,00 (1 million Euro) in public interest projects, are eligible to apply for an investors visa, lasting 2 years and renewable, at certain conditions, for subsequent periods of 3 years.
It is important to notice that, unlike the legislations of other countries, sadly the investors visa is not granted for real estate investments.
